Intelligence agencies urged organizations to provide a high level of intellectual property protection.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, together with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), has warned U.S. research organizations of Chinese cybercriminals who are trying to steal intellectual property related to coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

“The FBI is investigating the compromise of US organizations conducting COVID-19 research. Chinese cybercriminals have attempted to identify and illegally acquire valuable intellectual property and healthcare data related to vaccines, treatments and testing. The potential theft of this information jeopardizes the provision of safe, effective and efficient treatment options, ”the authorities said.

Intelligence agencies called on organizations involved in research in these areas to ensure a high level of cybersecurity in order to prevent the possibility of illegal access or theft of materials related to COVID-19.

Organizations are encouraged to fix vulnerabilities in their systems, actively scan all web applications for unauthorized access, increase cybersecurity using security tools such as multi-factor authentication, and identify suspicious account
